“Error Signature…” Error Message in MS Access 2002

One using MS Access database must have noticed that when Access database (.MDB) doesn’t get mounted, an error message appears at the startup. As a result, the data stored in Access database becomes inaccessible.

You get one of the following error messages when you attempt to mount Access database and it fails to mount.

“Microsoft Access has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience”
Or

“Error Signature
AppName: msaccess.exe
AppVer: 10.0.6501.0
ModName: msjet40.dll
ModVer: 4.0.8618.0
OffSet: 0008fcdf”

If you try opening a new database, the above error messages also appear at that time. Data saved in the database becomes inaccessible after any of the above error messages appear. In addition, you encounter the same error messages each time you attempt to mount the database.

Reason for the Error

There can be following two main reasons for the occurrence of any of above error messages:

Redirecting the Application Data folder to a different folder on the computer system by using a Group Policy.

Microsoft Access database file has been damaged due to power sabotage, virus attack, or crossing maximum size limit.

Resolution of the Error

In order to resolve the above mentioned errors, you need to follow some measures.

Use the Application Data folder name in the folder redirection path for the Application Data folder.

In case of Access Repair database corruption, you need to use an inbuilt repair utility known as “Compact and Repair.”

If Compact and Repair utility doesn’t produce fruitful results, then go for Access database repair software to recover the corrupted .MDB database.
